Writing a novel, any similar novels out there?

I thought about an idea for a book, but i need to know whether there are any similar books like this one. The story is about a boy who is plagued by disappearance, and then discovers that there is an alternate dimension where minions steal things out of existance. Like when you drop a pencil, it disappears and you never see it again, except it is stolen as quick as the blink of an eye and taken to another dimension. The other world is similar to the real world, but without buildings, or many buildings, darker because the sky is smothered in smog and unneeded stolen objects fall from large dishes in the sky. Basically, the boys older brother is taken to the dimension as a kid, like when he was 3, and once accidentally finding a way in, tries to regain what he lost over the years, including his brother. Am i copying anything? i made this on the spot about a week ago.
