It does contain peroxide, but no ammonia, so damage is far, far less, if at all. You can get level 1, which cause cause zero changes to the hair shaft, but it won't last long. level 2, or semi-permanent will last about 28 shampoos, (usually less), if you use shampoo for colored hair, and is still very easy on the hair. There is very little to worry about with either of these options.
